It is worth mentioning the "New Generation COOPA-ROCA" project. Its objective is to professionally initiate craft techniques to the young Rocinha women aged between 16 and 21. Its activities include dance, general knowledge and co-operativeness. It also provides sexual education in a community where the rate of teenage pregnancy is one of the highest in the municipality of Rio de Janeiro. The project was developed between March 1999 and September 2001 with recognition and support from UNESCO, the C&A Institute and FAT (Workers Assistance Fund), a community programme.
The activities of the "New Generation COOPA-ROCA project were provisionally suspended in October 2001 due to a lack of space at the headquarters owing to a significant increase in production, administration and quality control of craft techniques, these being the co-operative's main operations.
